Lectures and Practical work
- Overview of LCMS
- Types of Mass Spectrometry
- Ionisation in LCMS
- Using MS as a detector
- Adapting LC Methods to MS
- Tricks & Tips in LCMS
Course Objectives
This course covers the basics of modern LC/MS – from
the different types of mass spectrometer and ionisation
techniques, through design elements to practical optimisation
of aspects of the chromatography and their impact on
results. This one-day course talks about many forms of
MS, but concentrates on single quadrupoles for the practical
aspects for simplicity in applying and understanding
the principles of the technique. A classroom approach
with practical demonstrations and examples provide a
good grounding for anyone starting out in LCMS or thinking
of upgrading to the technique. As such, the course is
suitable for scientists with a working knowledge of chromatography
but no mass spectrometry experience.
Course Prerequisites
Customers will preferably have LC or other chromatography
experience (or have attended CHROM-001, the Basic Liquid
Chromatography Course). Experience of other MS techniques
may be beneficial, but is not a requirement as the
course will assume no previous knowledge.
